About Bandra West

Bandra West is a coastal suburb located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Bandra West Pin code is 400050. If you look at the Bandra West Map, you can see that it is surrounded by River Mithi on the southern part and by sea on the western part. Its adjacent localities are Khar to the north, and Worli to the South connected through “ Bandra-Worli Sea Link”. 

The name "Bandra" possibly originates from the Persian word for Port, or Bandar. It was a tiny fishing village inhabited by Kolis (fishermen) and salt farmers. In 1950, it was merged into the Bombay Municipal Corporation to form the Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay. Now, Bandra West has transformed into one of the most upscale popular suburbs with the most fancy lifestyle of the city today. 

Bandra West Mumbai has a cosmopolitan vibe, where residents belong to Hindu, Muslim and Parsi communities. It consists of many temples, mosques and churches which show the cultural diversity of the place and its residents. Majority of people residing here belong to upper or upper-middle class society.

As a tenant, I love the sea breeze and morning walks on Carter Road. Bandra West feels like a peaceful escape in the middle of Mumbai.

I’m a flat owner in Bandra West. Property value has doubled in a decade, but maintenance costs and traffic around Hill Road have increased significantly too.

As a tenant, Bandra West gives me quick access to BKC and South Mumbai. Rents are high here, but the convenience makes it manageable for now.

I’m a tenant living near Pali Naka. The cafes and nightlife are amazing, but it gets noisy late at night, especially on weekends.

Being a homeowner here for five years, I’ve seen great appreciation. However, redevelopment delays in my building have been frustrating.

As a tenant, I love walking on Carter Road every morning. The peace and greenery balance out the crowded streets and occasional power cuts.

I’m a tenant near Linking Road. The shopping options are great, but the traffic jams and lack of parking can be overwhelming during peak hours.

  2. Proposed Metro line, Mumbai Metro Line 3, an underground metro project, is expected to be complete by early 2024 to serve Bandra West.
  3. It is a well-developed area having a good number of high and mid-scale residential and commercial properties.
  4. Bandra West has a very good connectivity with the rest of the city with Bandra Railway Station as well as buses.
  5. Bandra West is among those parts of Mumbai which face almost no power-cuts throughout the day. 
  6. Plenty of Street lights. It is considered quite a safe area even at night.

What can be improved about Bandra West

  1. Traffic jams at peak hours are a common sight here. 
  2. Water logging during the rainy season is quite an issue. Some localities face a bit of water logging issues. 
  3. Getting a parking place is a problem here. 
  4. High amount of both air and noise pollution. 
  5. Property Rates are at an all time high in Bandra West and it only seems to be on a rise.
